Gary has eight years of coaching experience at the youth level in flag football, basketball, softball and club soccer. He holds an E Level Coaching License from US Soccer. Gary earned a third-degree black belt in Shotokan Karate, competed in many tournaments including the 2001 World Police and Fire Games and frequently taught classes for youth and adults. He is formerly the supervisor of the Maricopa County Adult Probation Department's Safety Training Unit, where he was an Officer Safety Instructor; coached officers in developing mental skills; coached employees in job performance and personal/professional development; and initiated the implementation of high-performance concepts, principles and techniques into safety training curriculum. He has presented safety-related trainings around the state of Arizona and presented nationally on four occasions. He is a retired Senior Master Sergeant with the Arizona Air National Guard who twice led teams on overseas deployments. He continues to be a learner, himself, reading on a daily basis and practicing the drums.
