PCA Begins Partnership with Pacific Lutheran University; To offer Continuing Education Units to Educators and Coaches

09.12.2019

Positive Coaching Alliance and Pacific Lutheran University of Tacoma, Washington have begun a partnership in an effort to provide needed continuing education credit (CEUs) to coaches and educators across the United States.

This online, self-paced course will be available for registration to the first 30 signed up when registration begins October 1. Through this course, students will be led by trained PLU faculty and will be required to complete 15 contact hours over a six-week period to earn CEUs. This course will be the first of multiple courses offered by PLU in conjunction with PCA for continuing education units.

This partnership and subsequent course was spearheaded by PLU professor of kinesiology and PCA National Advisory Board Member, Dr. Colleen Hacker.

Dr. Hacker has served as a member of the United States coaching staff for six Olympic Games as a Mental Skills Coach and Performance Psychology Specialist. During her tenure, the National Team won the first Gold Medal awarded in women’s soccer at the 1996 Olympic Games followed by a dramatic overtime victory over China in the 1999 World Cup to win the United States its second World Cup title. Most recently, Dr. Hacker served as the mental skills coach for the 2018 gold medal winning USA Women’s Olympic Hockey team at the recent Pyeongchang, South Korea Winter Games.

Dr. Hacker has also served as a mental skills coach for USA Hockey, and to athletes in a variety of sports, including Major League Baseball, National Football League, Major League Soccer and more.

"As a National Advisory Board member, I'm really excited for this new collaboration between Pacific Lutheran University and the Positive Coaching Alliance,” Dr. Hacker said recently.

“PCA is the premier coaching education program in the United States and the partnership with PLU is an excellent match - It is a tremendous opportunity to earn formal graduate continuing education credits for teachers, coaches and other stakeholders who are invested in coaching excellence."

The course, KINS 904: Positive Coaching 1, appears on an official PLU transcript as a "graduate-level continuing education class". This course may be accepted by other institutions for elective credit, or to satisfy professional development requirements for teachers, coaches and other related positions. Please check with your program or governing organization to determine compatibility with individual requirements and regulations.

More about the partnership and course will be announced next week, but if you or a colleague are interested in learning more, please provide PCA a little about yourself below, and you will be contacted with sign up instructions and more in the coming days!
