Brent Gwinn Wins PCA’s National Double-Goal Coach® Award Presented by TeamSnap

04.15.2019

Tampa, FL – Brent Gwinn, Tumbling and Trampoline Coach at Suncoast Gymnastics Academy, has won Positive Coaching Alliance’s coveted National Double-Goal Coach® Award presented by TeamSnap for his positive impact on youth in sports.

Gwinn is one of 50 national recipients of the Double-Goal Coach® Award, named for coaches who strive to win while also pursuing the important goal of teaching life lessons through sports. The award includes a $200 prize, a certificate, and mention within the websites and newsletters of Positive Coaching Alliance (PCA), a national non-profit developing BETTER ATHLETES, BETTER PEOPLE through youth and high school sports.

“Coach Brent’s motto is never stop learning,” said Amanda Zygarowski, a fellow coach at Suncoast Gymnastics. “He teaches each athlete to set a new goal every day and a reasonable goal to complete before they leave the gym. He immediately provides feedback on a task in order to achieve that goal.”

Coach Gwinn competed in multiple sports throughout his childhood and began coaching gymnastics at age 15, alongside both of his parents. “Both are amazing coaches and have played a huge role in me becoming the coach I am today. I believe in pushing myself to stay current on techniques, drills and tactics, and that helps me be more impactful with my athletes.” Arnold Gwinn, owner of Suncoast Gymnastics and Brent’s father, said, “Brent’s drive and work ethic is unmatched…he has become a valuable partner in business and is a leader for his coworkers and a great role model for his athletes.”

Gwinn’s motivation for coaching often comes from witnessing the progression of his athletes through the many levels of gymnastics and he said, “When an athlete learns a new skill, especially one they’ve struggled with for a while, I love seeing the smile on their face at the accomplishment.” Zygarowski believes Gwinn has made an impact in the lives of all of his athletes. “From the start of practice until the finish, Coach Brent is constantly thinking about how they can succeed in and out of the gym,”said Zygarowski.

“Thank you, Coach Gwinn, for teaching and helping the gymnasts develop as athletes and as people,” said Mason Cathey, Executive Director of PCA-Tampa Bay, the local Chapter of Positive Coaching Alliance. “We appreciate your commitment to our mission and our community. “

Gwinn will be honored in April at the National Youth Sports & Benefit at Santa Clara University, California.
