Earl Garcia, Hillsborough High School, Wins Positive Coaching Alliance-Tampa Bay’s Regional Double-Goal Coach® Award

03.04.2020

March 2020, Tampa, FL – Earl Garcia, football coach at Hillsborough High School (HHS), is one of five Regional Winners for Positive Coaching Alliance-Tampa Bay’s Double-Goal Coach® Awards presented for his positive impact on youth in sports.

The Double-Goal Coach® Awards recognize coaches who strive to win while also pursuing the important goal of teaching life lessons through sports. The chapter award includes a certificate, two tickets to a Tampa Bay Lightning game, a suite to a Tampa Bay Rays game, and recognition within the websites and newsletters of Positive Coaching Alliance (PCA), a national non-profit developing Better Athletes, Better People through youth and high school sports.

“Coach Garcia has not only been a football coach for over 41 years in our district, but also a teacher in the classroom and currently serves as an academic success coach for at-risk students,” said Carlos Diaz, educator at Hillsborough High School (HHS). “His players and coaching staff are well-versed on the expectations for both on and off the field performance, and one can witness Garcia’s calm coaching/counseling style with his students and players.”

Coach Garcia is in his 33rd year as head coach at HHS. Principal at HHS, Gary Brady, said, “Coach Garcia is simply a great coach and a great influence in the lives of his players. He has coached generations of young men in Tampa and currently has the most wins of any coach in the history of Tampa Bay high school football.”

The Tampa Tribune named Garcia “Coach of the Decade,” during the 90’s. Charles Harkness, HHS alumni, said, “I am proud of Coach Garcia’s contribution to Hillsborough High School and its legacy of great football players who have gone beyond high school to make contributions in college football, NFL and other life contributions.”

“We are proud to recognize Earl Garcia as a regional Double-Goal Coach® winner,” said Mason Cathey Brady, Executive Director of PCA-Tampa Bay, the local Chapter of Positive Coaching Alliance. “He is very deserving, and has been for many years, of this honor awarded to youth and high school sports coaches throughout the U.S.”

Positive Coaching Alliance will name twenty-five (25) National Double-Goal Coach® recipients, each of whom will receive $1,000 and two (2) tickets to the National Youth & Sports Awards in California in April 2020.
