The Positive Impact Awards on August 20th at the The Pacific Club in Honolulu recognized eight Triple-Impact Competitor scholarship winners. The Wallace, Elizabeth, and Isabella Wong Family Foundation was the scholarship sponsor.
Cleveland Cavaliers Coach Phil Handy Gives The Speech
Explaining the honor of being a Triple-Impact Competitor scholarship winner, Kaya McTigue from Mid-Pacific Institute, said:
I have complete gratitude for my school, my Athletic Director, my School Counselor, and my Head Kayak Coach. And I would like to thank PCA-Hawaii and all of you here today for supporting student-athletes. I feel strength in your support, which makes a positive difference in my life and in the lives of all student-athletes.
The inspiring event was co-presented by the Hawaii State Federal Credit Union and JACO Physical Therapy. The event featured a distinguished panel of basketball coaches: Dennis Agena, Director of Kalakaua Basketball Clinics; Eran Ganot, Head Men’s Basketball Coach at University of Hawaii at Manoa; Phil Handy, Assistant Coach for the Cleveland Cavaliers; and Jimmy Yagi, Head Men’s Coach (Retired) at University of Hawaii-Hilo. Coach Phil Handy gave “The Speech” that he used to help rescue the Cavaliers when they were down 1-3 in the NBA Finals to come back and win a historic NBA Championship.
