Hillsborough County Parks & Recreation Launches PCA-Tampa Bay Character Development Program

06.11.2018

Hillsborough County Parks and Recreation has partnered with PCA-Tampa Bay to launch PCA’s Character Development Program reaching over 900 children participating in HCPRD summer camps. The nine-week program launched on June 4 and will continue through August 3.

PCA-Tampa Bay’s Character Development Program consists of 54 daily lessons that will be integrated into HCPRD’s schedule at six summer camp locations. Each lesson is a combination of activities and discussions focused on Positive Coaching Alliance’s key principles – Honoring the Game through ROOTS, ELM Tree of Mastery, and Emotional Tanks. Certified instructors will lead each lesson and help the children understand how to apply these key principles at camp, home, school, and community.

All children completing the nine-week Character Development Program will be invited to attend the August 2nd baseball game between the Tampa Bay Rays and Los Angeles Angels at Tropicana Field. Children will be recognized on-field prior to the start of the game for exemplifying PCA’s key principles.

The partnership between Hillsborough County Parks and Recreation and PCA-Tampa Bay has been made possible by a generous contribution from BayCare Health Systems and St. Joseph’s Children’s Hospital. We are all very thankful for their support and the ultimate beneficiaries will be the over 900 children that have the opportunity to develop positive character this summer.
