James Jackson Wins Positive Coaching Alliance-Tampa Bay’s Double-Goal Coach® Award

04.29.2019

Tampa, FL – James Jackson, Basketball, Football and Track & Field Coach at Paul R. Smith Middle School, has won Positive Coaching Alliance-Tampa Bay’s Double-Goal Coach ® Award for his positive impact on youth in sports.

Jackson is one of five local recipients of Tampa’s Double-Goal Coach ® Award, named for coaches who strive to win while also pursuing the important goal of teaching life lessons through sports. The award includes a $250 personal prize, $250 donated in Jackson’s name to a school or athletic organization, a certificate, and mention within the websites and newsletters of PCA-Tampa Bay, the local Chapter of Positive Coaching Alliance.

Jackson defines his greatest pleasure he has with coaching as seeing “athletes I have coached become successful citizens in society, whether they go on to play professional sports or become plumbers, doctors or lawyers. I know that I had a small part in helping them become focused and being the best they can be.” Fellow coach Kaite Hamm was mentored by Jackson and says, “Coach Jackson helps his players in seeing the big picture in playing basketball. He encourages his players to push through any problems and focus on being a team player.”

Jackson’s love of sports developed in his childhood. He played football, baseball and track & field throughout high school, as well as football at Winston Salem State University. “My interest in coaching began after high school when my former coach asked me to come back to help. When my own children became interested in participating in sports, I started coaching on a regular basis.”

“PCA-Tampa Bay is excited to honor Coach Jackson,” said Mason Cathey, Executive Director of PCA-Tampa Bay, the local Chapter of Positive Coaching Alliance. “We appreciate the time he gives back to his community and congratulate him as a Chapter winner."
